Wythenshawe Vets Over-35s are situated in southern the city and play in the Cheshire-based Vets League Top Tier.

Ireland started turning out for the team during pre-season this season through good mate and current Wythenshawe teammate Blake Norton, and the former Republic of Ireland player then asked other ex-pros, who all play in a weekly nine-a-side game, to participate.

Former Senegal forward Oumar Niasse, who netted 12 scores in sixty-five Premier League games for the Toffees and even now attends their matches at Goodison Park, also had his debut against Collegiate OB - who are based in the city and wear an Blue training kit as their uniform.

"The spectators who turn up and watch are pleased and to make someone's day if they watch us competing there and to ask us questions - it's really about the pleasure of us having a place we can enjoy football, with structure of course."

So great is the strength in depth at the club, he made his first game at defender.

"That's a little different but then, I enjoy sprinting and just move forward - I'm not defending that much," he said.

"I warn my defender 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to continue attacking.

"The movement is what I'm looking for. It's enjoyable."
