The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Voice Anger About Size Updates
Members of the platform have expressed outrage after an update resulted in products showing incorrect sizing.
This online marketplace has updated its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes but did not contact every member regarding the update.
Online Platforms Response
Countless users and merchants are expressing on platforms saying Vinted listings now show a different size category compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.
The platform stated the revised method more closely matches other platforms.
It has advised users to examine their items and update the measurements by hand when needed, resulting in member annoyance.
Sizing System Updates
Earlier, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum like S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - such as a large size used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
User Accounts
Frankie Bridger, who creates plus-size fashion videos, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Another user, located in Scotland, explained products she uploaded on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as measurements 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she stated.
Required Changes
A different user, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated by the change as she had to manually change the sizing for "all her products".
"This situation is especially annoying, because of my ongoing medical condition and Vinted sales have been crucial for me since losing part of my income," she stated.
Platform Context
The platform boasts over 100 million members, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change within the service has received backlash: last year, the service retracted a modification concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
